Remembering John Lisenko
Services for John will be held:
Sunday, August 10th at 4:30pm
Russian Orthodox Church
1900 Essex Street, Berkeley, CA
John Lisenko, PE, PWLF, started his 39-year career as a Jr. Civil Engineer for CALTRANS and ended it as the Public Works Director of Foster City. In between he worked for a variety of public and private sector employers. He has also worked on a number of occasions overseas as a consultant to USAID and other agencies on infrastructure development in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. John has been active in the League of California Cities and is a past president of the Public Works Officers Division. He knows a little about a lot of stuff, and not much of anything in depth – however this has gotten him by, and he hopes to impart some of this questionable wisdom to others.

It takes many to help make our Northern California Chapter of APWA the best it can be. It is with sadness that I share the news that John Lisenko has passed away. John made many contributions to our profession and our Northern California Chapter over the years. John was one of the original three instructors at the first Public Works Institute (PWI) in September 2005 and taught at every module of PWI for the last twenty years. His ability to explain Public Works Organization, Fundamentals of Government, Ethics and Organizational Culture using his experience, real world stories and dry wit have influenced a generation of Public Works leaders. Our Chapter membership is that much better because of the work John has done to educate and share experience with current and future Public Works leaders. He will be missed.
