Public Works Institute Tuition & Exam Fee Grant Program
APWA Northern California is happy to announce the first ever grant/scholarship for the APWA Public Works Institute program. This grant applies to small cities & counties and rural communities in the APWA Northern California Chapter area which includes the counties of San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, Lake, Mendocino, Humbolt, and Del Norte.
Small Cities/Rural Communities are those with a population of 50,000 or less.
The grant application is only a two-page, online form. The first page is about your agency. The second page is about the person attending PWI

| Public Works Institutes are chapter-based certificate programs focused on supervision and management practice areas within all areas of public works. The content is designed to address the supervisory and management needs of current first-line supervisors and up, and those individuals aspiring to be better leaders and supervisors. |

Please note: the grant applies to people who started Module 1 in February or Module 2 in May retroactively. Registration for these modules will be reimbursed and the remaining will be registered for free. It will also apply to anyone planning to start the program at Module 3 or 4 in 2026. This is an annual grant, so the next grant application will come out in January 2027.

The grant also applies toward testing fees to take the Certified Public Works Professional – Management (CPWP-M) or the Certified Public Works Professional – Supervisor (CPWP-S) exams. The PWI prepares individuals for these exams. For more on the certifications click here. |
